Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN)

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN) Review

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN) Feature

  • Bolt-on rock maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays
  • Two Godin GS1 single-coils and GHB1 humbucker with five-way switch, tone, and volume
  • Adjustable tremolo bridge and Graphteq Tusq nut
  • Godin high-ratio sealed tuners
  • Body constructed of silver leaf maple anchor and poplar sidepieces
  • North American made
  • Double-Action Truss Rod
  • Canadian Hard Rock Maple Neck
  • Ergo cut easy to play neck with wide tonal options

The SD 22 combines the easy feel of a short scale with the added snap of a rock maple neck. The short scale reduces string tension, which provides easy string bending and augments the low frequency response. The compact feel of the neck and the diagonal radius carved into the body produces exceptional balance and comfort. In short, this guitar is fun to play, and lends itself to classic rock and R&B sounds.

Godin SD 22

Maple and Poplar Body

The SD 22 is constructed with a blend of two tonewoods. A center of silver leaf maple serves as an anchor for the neck and is flanked by poplar sidepieces, resulting in Godin's stated goal of making electrics that begin with a great acoustic sound. Solid body instruments may not produce much in the way of volume, but make no mistake, wood weight and density, type (and quality) of the neck/body attachment, type of bridge and nut material all have an impact on that final sound.

Godin SD 22 Pickups
One Godin GHB1 humbucker and two Godin GS1 single-coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for serious tonal options.

Rock Maple Neck With Rosewood Fingerboard

There are many grades of maple available out there. "Rock maple" is the term often used to describe a particularly hard variety of the wood that grows in colder climates. Rock maple necks produce excellent sustain, stability and feel, and pair up equally well with Rosewood and Maple fingerboards.

The SD 22's rosewood fingerboard further emphasizes the neck's mid-range, producing a more aggressive sound. The "22" stands for 22 frets, of course. The fingerboard features classic dot inlays.

Neck Fit/Pitch

The angle of the neck attachment--called pitch--has a huge impact on sound. A slight tilt forward will cause the guitar to sound boomy, a slight tilt backwards can make the guitar sound tinny. Equally important is the fit of the neck into the body. Godin guitars are renowned for tight-fitting neck attachments that support excellent neck/body energy transfer and precise neck pitch.

Godin Ergocut

Every Godin neck features an Ergocut shaping technique which bevels the edges of the fingerboard and frets back in towards the center of the fingerboard, providing an extremely comfortable worn-in feel.

Godin Pickups

The SD is loaded with one Godin GHB1 Humbucker and two Godin GS1 Single coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for maximum sonic power. The pickups share a volume and tone control.

Godin pickups are designed to be dynamic, responsive and transparent. Whether you play lightning fast country licks or big fat power chords, you'll appreciate the versatility of these pickups.

Graph Tech "Tusq" Nut

The precision Tusq nut is made with Graph Tech's "man made ivory," which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and is impregnated with Teflon to improve the tuning performance of your guitar. Play as hard as you want, bend a few steps, and your strings glide back into tune. The highly resonant material also means you'll get crystal-clear, bell-like high end, big open lows, and an overall sustain increase.

Godin A8 Two-Chambered Electro-Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst)

Godin A8 Two-Chambered Electro-Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst) Review

Godin A8 Two-Chambered Electro-Acoustic Guitar (Cognac Burst) Feature

  • Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and dot inlays
  • On-board RMC preamp with three-band EQ
  • Feedback-resistant design
  • Cognac Burst finish
  • Two-chamber mahogany body with spruce top

The Godin two-chamber concept applies itself beautifully in the A8. The A8 has caught the attention of many of the top mandolin players in the world who are delighted to have access to great sound, at any volume, for the first time.

Godin A8

Mahogany/Spruce Construction

As with all of the A-Series instruments, the A8 mandolin mixes traditional tone woods with modern design concepts and electronics. The two-chamber body is routed from a solid block of mahogany and capped with a solid spruce top. The top is voiced with a unique combination of X and fan bracing that produces exceptional sound and projection even when played acoustically.

Godin A8 Preamp
On-board RMC preamp with three-band EQ and volume.
RMC Preamp

Plugged in is where the A8 truly excels. The individual RMC saddle transducers run through an RMC preamp voiced specifically for the A8. An on-board, three-band EQ lets you dial in just the sound you're after, and as with Godin's guitars, the chambered design helps supress feedback, even at higher volumes.

Two Finishes Available

The A8 is available in two colors: Natural with a satin finish or Cognac Burst with a high-gloss finish.

A8 Mandolin Specs
  • Body: Two-Chamber Mahogany
  • Top: Spruce
  • Neck: Mahogany
  • Fingerboard: Ebony
  • Frets: 24

Godin Multiac Series-ACS Black Slim Guitar (Nylon Black Pearl)

Godin Multiac Series-ACS Black Slim Guitar (Nylon Black Pearl) Review

Godin Multiac Series-ACS Black Slim Guitar (Nylon Black Pearl) Feature

  • Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and offset dot inlays
  • RMC Custom bridge transducer and preamp with three-band EQ
  • Built-in 13-pin connector for Roland GR-Series synths and most other 13-pin devices
  • 25 1/2-inch scale
  • Chambered silver leaf maple body with cedar top

Here's one of many innovative axes from Godin. The ACS-SA blends a nylon classical guitar with Godin's unique solid bodies, with a chambered maple body and cedar top. It features on-board electronics for a straight acoustic sound, and like many of Godin's instruments it features a 13-pin connector for use with guitar synths. Plenty of options here.

Godin ACS-SA

Godin's Multiac Series

The Multiac models represent the créme de la créme of the acoustic/electric guitar world. Whether you're recording, performing or just looking for an incredible plugged-in sound, these instruments deliver superb results. Several of these guitars are nylon string and the remaining are steel string. The various models are also distinguished by the two electronic systems used in the Multiac series guitars. The RMC-equipped Multiacs include synth access capabilities, and the Duet models feature custom dual source systems by L.R. Baggs.

Godin ACS-SA

Godin ACS-SA
Send a standard 1/4-inch output or use the 13-pin connector with Roland or other guitar synthesizers.
A True Hybrid

The ACS blends classical guitar concepts with elements of solid body design. The incredibly comfortable neck from the Multiac Nylon is used here with a Maple body and Cedar top to achieve Godin's most affordable synth access guitar ever. Although the body is chambered, response from the maple top is more typical of a solid body design than that of a traditional acoustic guitar. This design results in an instrument that is virtually free of feedback, making it easy to use even when the band gets loud.

The mahogany neck holds an ebony fretboard with 22 medium nickel frets and offset dot inlays, and thanks to the deep cutaway you can actually access the higher ones.

Synth Access

The Multiacs that use the RMC Polydrive system can be recognized by the individual transducer saddles under each string. This system not only produces superb amplified sound, but also produces a hexaphonic output through a 13-pin connector, which provides these guitars with direct access to Roland GR-Series synthesizers. The key to the exceptional synth tracking of the Multiac lies not just in the electronics but also in the carefully selected and balanced blend of different wood used in its design. All of the materials used are the result of extensive prototype testing to achieve the best possible combination of plugged-in guitar sound and synth tracking.

Output Section

All of the Multiac SA models are equipped with two outputs. The 1-/4-inch phone output works with a regular guitar cord. The 13-pin connector provides hexophonic (a separate signal for each string) output for guitar synth devices.

Godin Redline 3 Electric Guitar (Natural Flame SG MN)

Godin Redline 3 Electric Guitar (Natural Flame SG MN) Review

Godin Redline 3 Electric Guitar (Natural Flame SG MN) Feature

  • Rock maple neck with maple fingerboard and offset dot inlays
  • EMG-81 (bridge) and EMG-85 (neck) active humbuckers with three-way switch, volume, tone
  • Floyd Rose tremolo bridge with locking nut
  • Black hardware
  • Silver leaf maple center with poplar wings

Kick it into the red with Godin's Redline 3. With active EMG humbuckers and a locking Floyd Rose tremolo, this one's definitely ready to shred. And with unique Godin tonewoods, an "ergocut" shaped neck, and a gorgeous flame-top finish, it's got that little something extra.

Godin Redline 3

Maple and Poplar Construction

Godin always takes a unique approach in their tonewood selection, and the Redline 3 is no exception. Like many of their instruments, this one's constructed from a blend of two woods--a silver leaf maple center with poplar wings. Add the string-through design and it all adds up to mountains of sustain.

Godin Redline 3 Pickups
Ready to shred with a classic EMG active pickup combo (EMG-81 bridge and EMG-85 neck) and a Floyd Rose tremolo bridge.
Godin Redline 3 Headstock
Floyd Rose locking nut, aggresive styling and black hardware.
Rock Maple Ergocut Neck

The guitar's 22-fret rock maple neck, with a maple fingerboard, is extremely fast and comfortable to play.

Every Godin neck features an Ergocut shaping technique which bevels the edges of the fingerboard and frets back in towards the center of the fingerboard, providing an extremely comfortable worn-in feel.

EMG Active Humbuckers

The Redline 3 features an active EMG-81 pickup in the bridge and an active EMG-85 in the neck--a classic combo for scorching, high-output tones. The 81 is at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. Whether you're playing power rock and roll, or overdriving your amp, there's a razor sharp attack, and incredible sustain for brilliant soloing.

Although the EMG-85 has more measurable output than the 81, its frequency response and string interface are different. The 85 uses two Alnico magnet loaded coils with a wide aperture to maintain a beefy lowend and a fatter top end. Because of a more natural tone, it works great as a rhythm and blues pickup because it has loads of output but isn't muddy.

Choose between the pickups using the 3-way switch and dial in different sounds using the tone knob.

Floyd Rose Tremolo

The Redline 3 allows agressive players to "dive-bomb" their way through any performance with the addition of the Floyd Rose Tremolo bridge. These bridges are the industry standard for in-depth tremolo work, complete with a locking nut to make sure you stay in tune no matter how much your strings are flapping.

Looks to Match

Just take a look at the aggressively styled Redline 3 headstock, thick black binding, and the satin, semi-gloss finish over the guitar's flame-top and you can see that it means business. Plug it in and you'll hear it.
